Arriving at Beta Cottage

When you enter the driveway, you’ll see the woodshed straight ahead. Park in front of it. YOu can pull right up to the door to the cottage to unload or pack up, but your designated parking spot is beside the cottage truck (A silver toyota Tundra)

If you’re arriving on foot, just walk up to the front door. Your host will have instructed you on your key location and trip details. Keep the key in this location for the duration of your stay, and leave it there when you depart.

Cottage Rules

Respect the Land

Beta Cottage is situated on a long, narrow 1.5-acre lot, with a stream that runs through its length and is home to dozens of wild animals. Care should be taken not to disturb the land outside of the field, trails, and camping areas.

The Neighbours

We love the neighbours, and they still love us back. We keep things quiet around here, with the exception of a well-planned gathering (everyone knows and approves), noise should be kept to a minimum between 10 PM and 7 AM.

House Guests

Visitors to Beta Cottage who spend the night should be logged by the primary guest. Cottage caretakers should be aware of everyone staying at the cottage at all times.

Pack in Pack Out

Beta Cottage has a pack-in, pack-out policy. We ask that all garbage, laundry, food, and disposables be taken with you when you depart the cottage. Refer to the garbage and recycling schedule for weekend disposal on the island.

COTTAGE BASICS

Water, Fire, Dirt (& Wifi).

Dirt

Beta cottage has a pack-in, pack-out policy. Unless otherwise arranged, what you bring, you must take with you. If you are comfortable with bio-composting, you may do so at the designated compost sites on the property.

Galiano Island recycling is open on Saturdays, from 10 AM-12 PM, where you can bring organized paper, plastics, and metals.

Wifi

The wifi signal at Beta Cottage is intermittent at best, but it does work.

Fire

To start a fire, refer to the woodstove instructions at the link below.

If you are familiar with operating a woodstove, the burnables are behind the stove in a bucket, and you will find cedar at the front door and in the shed to start the fire, and seasoned fir or hemlock in the shed as well. Feel free to chop your own rounds or burn the stacked pre-split fuel at your discretion.

Water

Beta Cottage’s water system is run by a pump - feeding from a hybrid well-water and rainwater system.

We request that you be especially frugal with water use in the summer months.

While the system produces potable water and is safe to drink, the sulfur content suggests you consume filtered drinking water.
